She has studied music at the Copenhagen University from 1980-84 and participated in several courses and workshops lead by e.g.: Joe Henderson, David Liebman, John Tchicai, Marilyn Mazur, David Murray etc.

As a composer she is mostly selftaught but has a degree in composition from Rhytmic Conservatory compositionclass lead by Bob Brookmeyer and has also been a participant in the Esbjerg Ensemble workshop (contemporary classical).

Lotte Anker has played in various danish/scandinavian groups e.g.: Marilyn Mazurs "Primi Band" and Mazurs "Summerquartet", Two Bass-Hit, Saxmachine (saxophonequartet), Code 6, Jazzgroup 90 , Art-Out etc. She has also participated in a lot of different projects as "New Music Orchestra", Pierre Dorges "SubwayMusic", Maria Schneider Big Band (project Malmo), Composers Biennale 96,
NUMUSfestival 97 and projectconcerts/tours with Peter Brotzmann, Miya Masaoka, Audun Kleive, Per Jørgensen etc.

As a composer and saxophoneplayer she has worked with both theatre and dancetheatre: "Kaspar Hauser" with Jorge Holguin Dancetheatre, "Transient Minds" with Ricketts Dance Co. and"Roberto Zucco" at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen.

In 1988 she formed her own quartet with pianoplayer Mette Petersen: "Lotte Anker/Mette Petersen Quartet". In 1992 the quartet transformed into a quintet with norwegian trumpetplayer Nils-Petter Molvær and in 1995 into a sextet with vocalist Mona Larsen.

In 1995 she also became a member of the free improvising trio "Anker, Friis, Poulsen", which has done extensive touring in Europe and New York and from 96 she -together with tromboneplayer Ture Larsen-has been the leader of the 12-piece orchestra:"Copenhagen Art Ensemble".Copenhagen Art Ensemble is performing new music and besides playing new danish music the band has done projects/tours with e.g.: Django Bates, Jon Balke, Tim Berne, The Zapolski Quartet etc. In 97 Lotte Anker formed a new group "Sine Die" with pianoplayer Marilyn Crispell, trumpetplayer Arve Henriksen, bassist Anders Jormin and drummer Raymond Strid-and in 98 also a trio featuring
Marilyn Mazur and Marilyn Crispell. The Anker, Crispell, Mazur Trio has been performing at clubs and festivals in New York, Chicago, Rabat and Copenhagen.

Lotte Anker has received several workinggrants, commissions and awards: a.o. a 3-year workinggrant from the State Arts Council in 96.

Both as a musician and composer her main interests are in the worlds of modern/free jazz/improvisation and contemporary classical and the combination of the two.
